UNM Small Business Institute (SBI) at Anderson

La Tierra Madre The Small Business Institute (SBI) at the Anderson School provides direct support for local businesses by linking management students with business owners. Consulting work is completed by graduate and undergraduate students who are guided by faculty members. These mutually beneficial partnerships simultaneously offer students the opportunity to experience the challenges of sustaining a small business and provide businesses with management assistance, expertise and guidance. SBI scholarship funding, paid by business community members using the SBI's services, are a small fraction of what professional consultation would cost. To inquire about working with Anderson students on an SBI project for your business, please fill out our online CSED Support Request Form.

The Small Business Institute (UNM SBI) was established in 1978 at The University of New Mexico. The UNM SBI has successfully served over 600 businesses since its inception. Each semester the UNM SBI works with approximately 25 businesses. Our clients include start-ups, entrepreneurs, expanding businesses, non-profit organizations, and family businesses. We work with businesses in the service, technology, retail, and wholesale sectors.

Our services are tailored to fit the needs of our individual clients. Student teams work with their clients throughout the semester and offer guidance in the following areas: marketing, finances and profit control, technological assessments, human resources and leadership, management organization and controls, and firm strategy. Businesses are encouraged to apply for the upcoming semester's program.

Thank you for including Tumbledown Gymnastic Studios in the projects completed through Anderson’s Small Business Institute (SBI). It was my pleasure to work with you and your students. Not only was my experience with the students positive, but they did great work and shared great ideas. You all drove to Santa Fe every time and that was going above and beyond. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I told the students if they needed references to please contact me. Thank you again.
